Buy it already if you are going for your CPA

Best accounting book out there. I borrowed this in college but now I really want something to refresh my accounting skills to prep for CPA and this is the go to book. This book is huge and it is heavy and that means a lot of concepts and theories and that is why it is like the bible of accounting.
The pricing is ridiculous when you buy it new, just get the cheapest one if you like but to catch up in the recent cases simply go to your school library to get up to date. No biggie. Almost everything is the same, and if you know how book publishes work than you know not to buy books new. I would say scam but I might get sued . Oops.
Overall, great book to use as reference as well as catching up your learning of accounting. Price was good when I bought it used and just buy it already if you are going for the CPA.

This book has its strengths and weakenesses.

If your reading this and are purchasing the textbook for a class then you probably do not have an option other than this book. I am currently in Intermediate accounting 2 (2 out of 2 courses on the semester system). This book does well at explaining complicated concepts, but lacks in other areas. The homework is sometimes worded in a way that makes you wonder what they are asking you to do, which can cause confusion. My main issue with the book is that they add unneeded material into the text. The appendixes are often not used because the material covered in them are completely different full length college courses by themselves and the most aggravating issue is that the authors will go on for pages about accounting methods and teach you how to do them, and then after you have read it say "but GAAP does not allow this method so you cannot use it"...Why would they increase extra material that you do not need? I understand that one might need to know they cannot use one accounting method, but it would be great if they didn't go on about how to do it and then tell you afterwards that you essentially didn't need to read the part you just read, especially since there is SO MUCH material to cover. Overall its a great reference, though. -2 stars for the poor homework examples and the extra unneeded materials.

Very heavy in detail, very heavy in weight

This book was a great companion to me for two semesters of my accounting studies. I got the loose leaf version. The down side of that was that I needed to buy a binder to hold the pages together, but on the other hand, I would only put the chapters I needed for class that particular day in the binder, and that saved me from carrying a complete, heavy hardcover book.
The chapters are very thorough, and go over everything from basic concepts to real-world examples to even special cases. If you're lucky, your school will have this course separated into two semesters, as it should be because there is so much content to cover. However, don't be surprised if these 24 chapters are squeezed into one semester, and you must cram 1-2 chapters per week. The book is not any more or less interesting than most other accounting books you must have come across. But if you read closely, the world of financial accounting will all make sense, and, assuming that you have a good professor, you will do well in your course and ultimately pass the CPA exam.
I wouldn't recommend this book, and certainly not Intermediate Financial Accounting, for students NOT majoring in accounting or a business field. My friend was majoring in chemistry and decided to take this as an elective, and lived to regret it.
